Tampa's First Cat Cafe Is Opening This August

The New Cats and Caffeine Cat Lounge Offers Coffee, Cookies, and Kittens

This weekend marks the opening of Tampa’s first cat cafe, Cats and Caffeine Cat Lounge! The concept of a cat cafe is part of a larger global trend, with cafes like the Cat Flower Garden in Taiwan or Dinah’s Cat Emporium in England, that let patrons reserve a block of time to visit adoptable cats while enjoying snacks and refreshments. In the case of the Cats and Caffeine Cat Lounge, the cafe serves as a unique kind of foster home for rescued cats and was designed to give them a space to roam freely and enjoy a cozier environment than a larger shelter setting. The cafe is partnered with Cat Lovers Inc, a local nonprofit which helps provide homes and veterinary care to rescued cats. In addition to treats for the cats, the cafe will offer coffee from the Ybor-based coffee brewer Blind Tiger, as well as baked goods from We Vegan Eats.

Sessions range from 25 to 50 minutes but the cafe will also soon offer special events such as a movie night, cat yoga, and a wine night.  The cafe will also host birthdays, groups of people, and corporate events.
