St. Petersburg Opera Company Hosting Free Open Air Shows
The Opera Company has announced four outdoor pop-up concerts to be held Sunday, August 9th throughout St. Pete
The St. Pete Opera will be holding 30-minute performances throughout the area and will feature highlights from the Georges Bizet opera “Carmen” as well as Ruggero Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci”, Giuseppe Verdi’s “A Masked Ball” and more.
The goal of the outdoor set up is to will allow many groups of people to watch the show while social distancing.
“The coronavirus shut us down completely for the short term,’' Mark Sforzini, the company’s artistic director, wrote in a press release. “For operas and orchestras, it’s been devastating. So, we’re now trying to do things virtually and outdoors where we can keep our performers and audiences safe."
While the performances are free, donations are accepted.
All performances are open to the public. See the full schedule below:
- 5 p.m.—Westminster Suncoast 1095 Pinellas Point Dr. S. (Gather north of the property on 66th Ave. S.)
- 6 p.m.—St. Pete Side Lot 2133 2nd Ave. S.
- 7 p.m.—Museum of Fine Arts 255 Beach Dr. NE. (Gather on the grassy, shaded lawn north of the building)
- 7:45 p.m.—Palladium Theater 253 5th Ave. N. (Gather in the gravel parking lot to the east of the building)
