Museums to Visit on Free Museum Day
Check out these amazing Tampa Bay Museums to visit!
Museum Day is this Saturday, September 18 and you can visit several amazing museums in the Tampa area for FREE! "Museum Day is a one-day event in which participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket" according to Smithsonian magazine. Some museums may require online reservations so make sure to keep an eye out.
Tampa Museum of Art
The Tampa Museum of Art is located in Downtown Tampa right next to Curtis Hixon Park. They have innovative exhibitions that include sculptures, installations, and classic works of photography.
Florida Museum of Photographic Arts
The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is also located in Downtown Tampa on the other side of Curtis Hixon Park. Their current exhibitions include Stephen Wilkes’ Day to Night series, and Garry Winogrand’s Women are Beautiful.
Henry B. Plant Museum
Henry B. Plant Museum is located on the University of Tampa campus inside the old Tampa Bay Hotel building that was built in 1891. This museum is home to European, Asian, and Floridian art.
Tampa Bay History Center
The Tampa Bay History Center is located next to Amalie arena in Channelside and features 3 floors of permanent galleries. The exhibit halls go through the wild story of Tampa and offer viewers information on all that has gone into making it the city it is today.
